FAQs

  • Absolutely it works. Connection happens between people, screen or no screen.

There are many advantages of online therapy; it’s convenient, effective, and can be done from the comfort of your own home.

However, it’s not right for everyone. Teletherapy works best for those who are not having an acute crisis and for those who have a quiet, private place to have their sessions.

Many clients find that connecting from a comfortable, quiet space can feel very similar to being in a traditional office setting.

  • I provide online therapy to individual adults in Texas. I am LGBTQ+ allied. I strive not to be oppressive and to be inclusive to all humans.

  • We will usually be able to figure that out during the 15-minute consultation call. Part of this time will be for me to give you a sense of who I am and how I work. If after this call it doesn’t seem like a good match, no problem. I want you to find the help that you need and may even be able to make recommendations for a better fit.

  • Sessions last either 50 or 80 minutes, depending on which you choose.

Sessions are typically held every week for new clients. It has been my experience that therapy is most effective when there is an early commitment to the process. This allows us to develop goals that fit your needs, build rapport, and gain momentum.

As therapy progresses we will collaboratively decide on the frequency of sessions based on your individual needs and preferences.

  • The initial 15-minute consultation is free.

The initial session is $165 for 50 minutes and $180 for 80 minutes. Therapy sessions are $150 for 50 minutes and $180 for 80 minutes.

Payment is required at the time of the session via a credit card on file.

  • Though I still see established clients utilizing insurance, I am moving towards accepting only self-pay clients or very limited insurance clients billed through the Alma platform.

If you are being seen on insurance, your sessions will be 53 minutes in length. Longer session times are not covered by insurance.

There are some downsides to using health insurance. In order to cover the cost of services, insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis. My approach to therapy may not fully align with the medical model of mental health. Not everyone who seeks out therapy qualifies or wants a diagnosis. I believe in the power of therapy, but I don’t believe in insurance companies having a say in what is right for my clients.

I can provide you with a receipt that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

  • In consideration of my time and the needs of other clients, I require a 24-hour notice of cancellation.

Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) will incur a fee of $100.

Appointments missed without notice (no call no show) will incur the full cost of the scheduled session.

An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency.

  • What we talk about in session remains between us with a few exceptions. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, I may be required to disclose the information if I am ordered to by a court of law; if I learn information regarding harm to a child, elderly person, or person with disabilities; or if I have reason to believe you are in imminent danger of harming yourself or others.

If you are using your insurance, the insurance company has the right to request documentation of services.
